IN PERSON

General Hardware Contemporary
Toronto, 2022

In Person is an exploration of stillness. Each painting captures a frozen instance — asking us to pause or to take in the scene before us, whether up close or from an intimate distance. The series draws its subject matter from movie stills, screenshots, and photographs from strangers’ feeds. Through the depths of the endless scroll, lived and vicarious experiences begin to blur. Moments glimpsed through a screen become memory.

Images of desolate landscapes and graphic still lifes are zoomed-in, cropped almost beyond recognition, leaving some part of the story untold. The works exist free of walls, outside of windows, and beyond the digital entrapments that define the boundaries of modern life.
